Same sex or homosexual relationships is highly considered illegal in Nigeria. The Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act criminalizes homosexual clubs, associations and organizations, with penalties of up to 14 years in jail. Luck ran out of two on the early morning 18th of June at the Oko Academic Metropolis, as two homosexuals were caught deeply in the act and were almost lynched to death by irate mob that ran to the scene of the event when an alarm was raised on the abominable incident. Only the quick intervention of the Police and the security operatives who promptly arrived at the scene was able to save them.
Speaking with the Forum Newspapers, one of the eyewitnesses, explained that, on the eve of this abomination, one of the students living around the area named Collins organized a birthday party that was highly attended by the students, friends and many living far and within, and suspected that these abominable perpetrators must have been one of the guests to the event. The eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous emphasized that it was just on the early morning hours that both of them were caught. An alarm was raised which drew the attention of many living within the premises of the environment, who beat them mercilessly living one of them half dead. Forum news also gathered that one of the miscreants luckily escaped from the hands of the angered mob, whose name we gathered to be Benneth Chiedozie but the other one named Martins was immediately handed to the police.
According to a statement issued by the Police Command, one of the accomplices had been stripped naked and beaten mercilessly before security operatives promptly arrived the scene and saved him. According to the Policeman, notwithstanding the severity of the incident, Nigeria says no Jungle Justice.
During interrogation, Martins blamed His illicit activities on the devil, and has been in such activity for a long time now. According to him, he has visited many pastors to deliver him, all to no avail. Martins confessed that he was about to have intercourse with a boy staying with him in the same room, before one of the guests who also slept with them caught them and ran out, shouting which attracted the attention of irate mob. They were caught and severely beaten, but his accomplice was able to escape from the hands of the angered mob, who had already brought fuel to burn them alive.
Martins was taken into custody and is helping the operatives in their investigations to catch the other who ran way. One of the angered youths vowed that they will make sure the runaway accomplice is caught, and face the consequences of his actions. “We will never be alive to see him live, we must burn him to death” he said angrily.
