Total screens 10,000 Ontisha residents for HIV, TB

Total Nigeria Plc has conducted free HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria screening for residents of Onitsha, Anambra State.
The initiative, which is in partnership with Nigeria Business Coalition Against AIDS, saw no fewer than 10, 000 persons benefitting from the free medical exercise.
During the outreach programme, 22 persons drawn from 10 Total Service Stations were also trained on how to further educate residents on maintaining healthy lifestyles and avoiding deadly diseases.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director of Total Nigeria Plc, Mr. Jean Phillipe-Torres, said that the programme being one of its most cherished social responsibility schemes, had benefitted many individuals and households in over 20 states of the federation since its inception in 2006.
Also speaking at the event, Executive Director (Strategy), Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria, Dr. Jeff Nnamani, said that the initiative was put up to prevent avoidable deaths in many parts of the country especially rural communities.
He said, "Our fight against HIV/AIDS is a fight to protect our host communities, employees, families, organisations and society at large from being infected.
"This initiative has been adopted by the Total Group as an essential component of our organisation's Sustainable Development policy and has been fully integrated into our global strategy."
