Niger police nab cattle rustlers, recover 327 cows

THE police in Niger State have intercepted a gang of suspeted cattle rustlers at Beji in Bosso Local Government Area of the state.
The command's Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, told Northern City News on Tuesday that the Anti-kidnapping and Violent Crimes Unit intercepted the suspects following a tip-off.
Elkana said the operation lasted hours, noting that six suspects including Abubakar Baituwa, Abubakar Umar, Mohammed Hanbi, Aliyu Umar, Abubakar Abdullahi and Mohammed Baituwa, all from Zamfara and kebbi states, were arrested.
According to him, 321 cows and 30 sheep were recovered from them, adding that no life was lost during the operation.
Similarly, a team of policemen intercepted a cattle rustler at Tunga Mallam in Paikoro Local Government Area.
The spokesman who did not disclosed the name of the suspect noted that the suspect abandoned the cows and escaped.
He confirmed that six cows were recovered from the suspect by police operatives.
Elkana said, "We cannot give up in dealing with them ruthlessly unless they change. We will not give them a breathing space to carry out their heinous activities in the state; it will not work.
"Niger state is bigger than what they think it is. The law will soon catch up with them and they will suffer the shame."
The police spokesman added that the suspects would be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
